I'm trying to install the singleplayer character editor from Ioncross, but there's an issue. The installation program comes up, picks a folder and begins its install, but at about 1/3 finished it immediately jumps to the finished section. Seemingly too fast. When I close the installer the folder it installed to opens. Only its completely empty. The installer installed nothing.
IONCROSS Freelancer Server Operator mk.V.1 made by JoeBoomz. FLShell can run on any standard or modded FL server. Complete details about FLShell are on the download page. A quick, dirty and ugly frontend for Mario 'HCI' Brito's Freelancer INI uncompressor bini. This tossed together interface was created by Tyson Schoepflin.
I've tried running it as the administrator but the same thing happens. I'm baffled because at no point does an error message come up to give me a troubleshooting startpoint.
I'm running windows 7 -64bit, and I'm suspicious this might be the issue. Has anyone had this happen before, or any ideas on how to force the install? Sorry to doublepost. But I screencapped the point at which my install screws up, if it helps: It zooms through the first bit of installing, then when it gets to that point, it stalls for a few seconds. Then jumps to the finished screen without completing the rest of the green bar. I thought possibly the download was corrupted somehow so I got a fresh copy from the Ioncross page but it did the same thing.
I also thought maybe I could get a different version of the editor to work. But I'll be damned if I can't find it.anywhere. but the ioncross page. So haven't been able to test that theory yet. I'll be damned. I actually went and grabbed an old install of Ioncross from an xp box I had and just dragged the whole folder onto my win7 machine.
As long as I ran it in administrator mode it worked with no problems. So obviously it.can. work properly in 64bit. So why the hell wont the stupid installer function? If anyone is having issues with Ioncross and wants me to host the post-install program folder, just let me know. I didn't check the version, but it's probably older than the current build, since my xp machine was last used for freelancer years ago.
But any working editor is better than no working editor, yes? Vista 'tricks'. NEVER run anything for Freelancer out of Program files.
This includes the game. Copy it to your main drive after install eg: C: Freelancer & C: Ioncross.
And any other process blockers. That includes your AV 3.
Run your ENTIRE account (not just apps) as a Admin & don't use XP compatibility mode unless you have to. Make shortcuts yourself and check the admin box just to be double sure. Know your system.
Keep it well updated & don't even look at Vista without service packs, Proper (recent) DirectX and.net frameworks 5. There's a program for that. Disabling it is only half the solution. You want it well dead anything outside of that is user related.
I for one have had 0 problems before and after the service packs came. Only 1 app didn't work. And that's the Starsphere Utility 1.1 & that's a.net problem mainly.
